Reunification Counseling Services

Ms. Logan conducts Reintegration Therapy, also commonly known as Reunification Counseling for strained and/or damaged parent-child relationships.  Ms. Logan developed the Child and Adult Reunification Education (CARE) Program to assist families to repair strained parent/child relationships.

There are various reasons in which relationships can become strained resulting in a child resisting and/or refusing contact with a parent.  In some cases, a child may irrationally reject a once loved parent (commonly referred to as Parental Alienation).  Alternatively, as one of many other examples, a parent may have previously struggled with substance abuse thus negatively affecting the child’s desire to spend time with the parent.  Experience indicates, however, that fear is never diminished by avoidance and that fear can be reduced and/or potentially eliminated through appropriate exposure to the parent.

In order to ensure participation in this process, Ms. Logan only conducts Reunification Therapy via a Court Order through the CARE Program.  Generally, Ms. Logan does not determine if Reunification Therapy should occur, however, she does ascertain how it should occur.  In addition, based upon the progress of established treatment goals, Ms. Logan will also dictate when the therapy should end.

The CARE program in most cases will work with family as a system, and Ms. Logan typically requests that both parents are invested in the process.  Joint parental participation is usually vital in order to help ensure that one parent is not actively trying to undermine the process through negative actions, such as failing to keep the child’s appointments.  Intervention with only one parent is likely not to succeed, therefore, Ms. Logan requests that both parents have some responsibility.  This individual parental responsibility may include transportation to and from appointments and/or financial responsibility – even if the financial responsibility is minimal for one of the parents.

What to Expect

Ms. Logan requires that her sample Order be used, and it is advised to first check her availability prior to naming her in an Order.  Once the Order has been signed, returned, and accepted (without changes, or changes agreed upon by Ms. Logan), Ms. Logan will require that paperwork for the CARE Program be completed along with payment(s) be returned.  The first session (an Intake Session) will address questions and/or concerns, as well as provide an overview of the CARE Program.  The CARE Program is initially intended to occur weekly, involving 50 to 90 minutes sessions.

The duration, frequency, and intensity of treatment depends on the unique circumstances of each family.  Cases are customarily viable candidates for Texas PCS CARE Reunification Therapy when/if a parent has had contact with the child(ren) within the past two years, and there have not been previous (failed) attempts, specifically regarding Reunification Therapy.  Reunification Therapy is also not suited when one parent continues to undermine the process and/or the other parent (i.e., sending undermining messages to a child(ren)), and there are no consequences for that parent.

While each case in unique, some collective goals include restoring parental authority, appropriately empowering the child, and setting/establishing boundaries.  The overall and imperative goal is to intervene, in order to help the child(ren) make and maintain a healthy relationship with each parent.
